As soon as we received word that Yuuka’s parents had been involved in an accident, we headed to the hospital.
The other party had ignored a red light and crashed straight into Yuuka’s parents.
By the time we arrived at the hospital, it was already too late. Yuuka’s parents had already passed away.
Yuuka just sat there in a daze, unable to accept what had happened.
If someone told me my parents had suddenly died in an accident, I’m sure I’d react the same way.
The moment Yuuka saw her parents’ bodies, she collapsed right there.
Then, in a small voice, she said, “Dad, Mom…” and quietly cried.
All I could do was hold Yuuka in my arms as she cried.
Eventually, the funeral for Yuuka’s parents was held, attended by my family, Kouhei’s family, Kaori’s family, and Yuuka’s relatives.
The real issue was what would happen to Yuuka. All of her relatives treated her like a burden.
Her grandparents were living on a pension and had no money to raise a child, so they reluctantly gave up on the idea.
Then, a couple arrived late.
“Koichi-san, hurry up. The discussion’s already started.” (?)
“I know, but give me a break, I’m exhausted.” (Koichi)
A beautiful woman and a chubby man entered the room.
“Uncle Koichi, long time no see. You haven’t changed a bit.” (Yuuto)
I greeted the familiar uncle who had come.
“Well, if it isn’t that cheeky brat Yuuto. You’ve gotten big. Where’s Yuuka-chan?” (Koichi)
Uncle Koichi started looking for Yuuka.
Soon, Uncle Koichi spotted her hiding behind my back.
“Yuuka-chan, it’s been a while. Do you remember me?” (Koichi)
As Uncle Koichi asked Yuuka, she nodded.
“I’m glad. If it’s alright with you, would you like to come live with us?” (Koichi)
In response to his suggestion, Yuuka shook her head.
“I don’t want to be separated from Yuuto.” (Yuuka)
When she said that, Uncle Koichi suddenly started laughing.
“I see. Looks like Yuuto is really loved.” (Koichi)
Uncle Koichi then spoke with my parents about something.
“Alright, how about this? We’ll register her in our family registry, but after talking with Yuuto’s parents and getting their permission, Yuuka will live with them. How’s that?” (Koichi)
Unbelievably, my parents agreed to take care of Yuuka.
“No problem. Yuuka-chan’s like a daughter to us anyway.” (Yuuto’s Mom)
“If the roles were reversed, I’m sure her parents would’ve done the same.” (Yuuto’s Dad)
Thanks to my parents’ proposal, Yuuka’s situation was safely settled.
And the next day, her belongings were moved into the room next to mine.
We explained everything to the school as well, arranged for her documents to be sent to our home, and thus began our life together.
