“Nice to meet you. I’m Kaneki Tomoya.” (Tomoya)
“I’m Kanemoto Yuki. Nice to meet you.” (Yuki)
Kaneki-kun greeted us cheerfully, while Kanemoto-san greeted us with a slightly annoyed tone.
Just as we were about to introduce ourselves—
“You’re all pretty well-known, so no need for introductions. Looking forward to working with you.” (Yuki)
Yuuka bowed her head politely and greeted.
Then, Yuuka stared intently at Kanemoto-san.
Seeing that, Kanemoto-san seemed a bit flustered.
Yuuka had a habit of observing people she met for the first time.
She had her own way of judging people due to her shyness, and up until middle school, she never really got attached to anyone besides me, Kaori, and Kouhei.
Yuuka slowly approached Kanemoto-san and grabbed the hem of her clothes.
We were all shocked when we saw that. This had never happened before—usually, Yuuka would just stare. The fact that she grabbed her hem meant she liked her.
Kanemoto-san looked completely unsure of what to do and panicked a bit.
“Kanemoto-san, try petting Yuuka’s head. This is the first time something like this has happened, so even we don’t really know what to do.” (Yuuto)
When I said that, Kanemoto-san slowly reached her hand toward Yuuka’s head.
And the moment she touched Yuuka’s head, Yuuka narrowed her eyes in contentment, showing no sign of discomfort.
“Yuuka didn’t mind being touched by someone other than us for the first time.” (Yuuto)
While we were still surprised, Kaneki-kun jumped in.
“Yuki tends to be liked by stray cats and animals, you know. She looks kind of scary, but she’s actually really good at taking care of others.” (Tomoya)
That actually made some sense.
When she was petting Yuuka, there was a very gentle atmosphere about her.
Yuuka seemed to pick up on that.
Satisfied, Yuuka left Kanemoto-san and returned to my side.
The moment Yuuka walked away, Kanemoto-san looked a little lonely.
“She tends to be judged by her appearance, but she’s really caring deep down. I’d be happy if you stayed friends with her. Seeing my childhood friend enjoying herself really makes me happy.” (Tomoya)
“We’re childhood friends too, so I totally get what you mean.” (Kouhei)
“Ah, I knew it. You guys gave off that vibe.” (Tomoya)
We ended up having a lively conversation with Kaneki-kun and the others.
It felt like the orientation was going to be a fun experience for all of us.
