After we finished breakfast, Lia-sensei made an announcement.
“Today, you’ll be going on a mountain hike. It’s not too tough—it’s a hiking trail that’s used regularly, so don’t worry. Once you reach the summit, lunch will be handed out in order of arrival, and you’ll be free to do as you like afterward. Let’s do our best! I’ll be heading to the goal point by car and waiting for you there.” (Lia)
After she finished explaining, one of our classmates raised their hand.
“Sensei, aren’t you coming with us?” (Classmate)
“I need to head there first to prepare everyone’s lunches and drinks. If I go with you, the ones who arrive early would have to wait, right?” (Lia)
Saying that, Lia-sensei quickly got into the car and left ahead of us.
“Alright, we’re going first. We wanna get there early and take it easy.” (Kouhei)
“Yeah, so we’ll go as a pair. You two get along too, okay?” (Kaori)
With that, Kouhei and Kaori headed off before us.
“They probably just want to arrive early so they can flirt in peace…” (Yuuto)
As I was imagining their motives, Yuuka tugged on my sleeve.
“Yuuto, let’s go already. If we don’t, we won’t have time to eat.” (Yuuka)
With that, Yuuka and I started off at a relaxed pace.
The weather was nice today, and since we were in the mountains, the air was fresh and clean.
I was relaxing and enjoying the hike.
It seemed Yuuka felt the same way, tightly holding my hand and happily humming as she walked almost like she was skipping.
After about 30 minutes, we safely reached the goal point.
“Alright, you two are last—here are your lunch.” (Lia)
Lia-sensei said that as she handed us our lunch boxes.
While we were looking for Kouhei and Kaori, we found them sitting properly on a bench in seiza position.
“Why are you two sitting like that?” (Yuuto)
Then they explained the situation.
“We ran ahead toward the goal, right? Well, Lia-sensei said that since we ran on the hiking course, as punishment, we had to sit in seiza and wait until the other couple arrived. She also said that she wanted us to enjoy the hike, though.” (Kaori)
It seemed they had been monitored until we got there.
“Well, it was fun getting here.” (Yuuto)
“It was fun. I want to do it again.” (Yuuka)
It looked like Yuuka had grown fond of hiking.
Then we ate our lunch, took a short break, returned to the hotel, got on the bus back to school, and thus ended a long day.
