SHCF – Chapter 2

The teacher finished treating me, and we were temporarily released.

We explained how the injury happened and why things had turned out this way.

Later, my parents, the girl’s parents, and the parent of the child who had slashed at me with scissors all gathered to have a discussion.

“We’ve asked you here today to understand the circumstances of how Yuuto-kun got injured.” (Teacher)

The teachers said with serious expressions on their faces.

We then explained how it had happened.

I talked about how Yuuka had been bullied, how I stepped in to help her, and how the other kid’s scissors grazed me, causing my face to bleed, along with details about the bullying from before.

The mother of the child involved became hysterical.

“My child would never do something like that! These kids are lying!” (Kid’s Mom)

“Then could you explain why my son has an injury on his face?” (Yuuto’s Mom)

My mother’s voice was calm but clearly angry.

My parents already knew that there were security cameras in the daycare. They had already checked the footage, which clearly showed me getting injured by the scissors.

But the other mother, who didn’t know that, remained firm in her stance.

Then Yuuka’s mother turned to her.

“Would it be alright if we check the surveillance footage? Everything should be recorded there.” (Yuuka’s Mom)

The moment she said that, the color drained from the other mother’s face.

“There’s no need to go that far. It’s just a quarrel between children.” (Kid’s Mom)

From the tone of her voice, she was clearly nervous and panicking.

“If that’s the case, then all the more reason we must check. If adults don’t properly confirm who did something wrong and scold them accordingly, it won’t be good for the child.” (Yuuka’s Mom)

Yuuka’s mother calmly and gently spoke so we wouldn’t be afraid.

Even so, the other child remained silent.

“Well then, since we can’t resolve this as is, let’s review the security footage. Everyone agrees, right?” (Teacher)

The moment the teacher said that—

“I was the one who hurt Yuuto-kun.” (Kid)

—the other child admitted and apologized.

Apparently, their parent had told them to keep quiet.

They said they had no choice but to obey, or else they’d get hit, but they had reached their limit and couldn’t stay silent any longer.

After that, we kids were sent outside while the adults began their discussion.

Yuuka immediately clung to my back.

It was hard to move, but I didn’t complain and just stayed like that until the parents came to pick us up.

As soon as Yuuka’s mother saw us—

“Ara, it’s rare to see Yuuka clinging to someone outside of our family, isn’t it?” (Yuuka’s Mom)

The moment she said that, Yuuka rubbed her cheek against mine from behind.

The mothers who saw it all gave us such warm looks.
